Garden
Project

The picture on the left shows how big the back garden at participation house is, the one on the right shows the fairly steep incline that prohibits the residents from being able to enjoy it. With their wheelchairs they are restricted to the patio just outside of the house. The Thornhill Cruisers Car club are changing that. With the money raised from our 50/50 draws and the generosity of some companies we are going to change this into The George Empringham Sensory Garden. With a design by Karen at Sheridan Nurseries, it will be completely accessible with cement paths & ramps. It is designed to give pleasure to any one of our senses, whether it be the sound of trickling water from the waterfall, the smell of flowers and plant or to the vision of masses of colour from the different flowers that are to be planted.

The start:
After consultations with architects and acquiring required elevation details regarding the incline of  ramps so the garden is within the required limits for wheelchair accessibility,
some folks from Participation House, the contractor, our very own cement expert, Morrie ("The Cement Cowboy") and our president, Nate, are going over plans for the garden.
Even at this early stage, the generosity of several companies needs to be mentioned: Sheridan Nurseries, Eagle Kwok at Morrison Hershfeld, and
Dufferin Concrete .

We can't thank these companies enough for coming on board with this project.

Next putting the liner down:

Here the folks from  Aquascape and Sheridan Nurseries lay down the liner.

Then the rocks:

Here are some very heavy rocks (donated by Beaver Valley Stone) being moved into place.
(you will notice no Cruisers are involved in this part!)

Time for Lunch:

Well all that work builds an appetite, so it's time to feed the workers and take a   break (of course Cruisers were involved in this part, because you know we love  to eat!)

A well deserved break is taken

Here is Nate the Pres. at the bbq,
he says the hat makes 'em taste better!

After a lot more hard work the waterfall is in:
